- Numbering of the freeways’ connecting roads.
- The National Freeway logo is white with black text in the shape of a plum blossom. The number in the center of the flower is the number of the national freeway.
- Provincial highway logos are in the shape of a shield with white text on a blue background. The number (maximum two digits) is the number of the provincial highway.
- County road logos are square with black text on a white background. The number in the center (three digits) is the number of the county road.
*National road numbering rules: north-south roads use odd numbers and east-west roads use even numbers. For example, the road commonly known as the Second Northern Highway is actually National Freeway No. 3, and the Airport Expressway is National Freeway No. 2.

- The name marked on the left indicates the place to the left side of the connecting road.
- The name marked on the right indicates the place to the right side of the connecting road.
- English translations of names are based on the “Chinese translation guide” by National Languages Committee.

- Maximum speed limits for general road sections:: speed limits on major sections of the National Freeway.。
- Speed limits for special sections (such as down-slopes, sections under construction and ramps) are set individually.
- The sections approaching toll stations require deceleration from 80 to 60 and to 40 kph and finally a complete stop at the toll collection point.
The minimum speed limit for all sections, except toll stations, ramps and construction sites, is 60 kph.

- Calculation of distance: calculated from the current location to the center of the interchange.

4.“Large Vehicles are Forbidden to Enter Inner Lanes” Signs

For traffic management purposes, parts of the three-lane sections are prohibited to large vehicles for entry to the inner lanes and second inner lanes (central lanes). |

Things you may not know…
- Drivers who fail to turn on their headlights while driving inside tunnels may be fined up to NT$3000 according to Item 13, Article 9, of the Rules on Freeway Traffic.。

“Automobiles Only” Sign |
According to Article 17 of the “Rules on Freeway Traffic”, the following are not permitted on freeways.
- Pedestrians
- Military troops or maneuvers
- Slow vehicles
- Motorcycles
- Pedicabs and motorized pedicabs.
- Farm vehicles
- All other equipment outside the category of automotive vehicles.
- Tow-trucks towing broken down vehicles not permitted on the freeways.

7.Height Restriction Signs

Things you may not know…
Vehicles with a height over meters must have a special permit. Please submit your application to the Taiwan Area National Freeway Bureau, Ministry of Transportation and Communications.
