1.Jurisdiction
The jurisdictional area of the SRBO covers Yunlin County, Chiayi County, Tainan City, Kaohsiung City and Pingtung County.
Freeway No. 1 (Sun Yat-sen Freeway): 251K+100 to 374K+320, from Dalin to Kaohsiung, totaling 123.22 km.
Freeway No. 3 (Formosa Freeway): 270k+000 to 431k+525, from Gukeng to Dapeng Bay, totaling 161.525 km.
Freeway No. 8 (Tainan Branch Route): from Lane 124, Sec. 1, Gongxue Rd. in Tainan City to Xinhua, totaling 15.51 km.
Freeway No. 10 (Kaohsiung Branch Route): from Wenzi Rd. in Kaohsiung City to Cishan.
Total: 33.782 km.

• The SRBO has one director overseeing office affairs with two deputy directors offering assistance and 1 supervising engineer handling engineering-related matters.
• There are 4 sections (Construction, Labor Safety, Traffic Management, and General Affairs), 4 offices (Secretariat, Civil Service Ethics, Personnel, and Accounting) in the SRBO. The Office is in charge of equipment and maintenance facilities, traffic control centers, 4 branches (Xinying, Gangshan, Baihe, and Pingtung), and 5 service areas (Xinying, Rende, Gukeng, Dongshan, and Guanmiao).

6.Overview
(1) History
The predecessor of the SRBO was the preparatory office set up on July 16, 1973, tasked with the planning, design and supervision of the southern section of Freeway No. 1.
On November 1 of the same year, the Southern Region Engineering Officer was established under the Taiwan Area Freeway Engineering Bureau, MOTC. Upon the completion and opening of Freeway No. 1 on December 1, 1978, its mission shifted from construction to maintenance. On the order from the Executive Yuan, the Office was restructured to become the Southern Region Engineering Office operating under the Taiwan Area National Freeway Bureau. On January 2, 2018, it was renamed the Southern Region Branch Office (SRBO).
(2) Main Tasks
Freeway maintenance: natural disaster relief, maintenance of weighbridges, right of way, landscaping, safety facilities, drainage facilities, slopes, bridges and culverts, tunnels, roadbed and road surface
Facilities construction and improvement: new acoustic barriers, improvement works
Travel services: rescue towing, roadside emergency phones, service areas
Traffic management: traffic accident handling, reporting on advertisement violations, weighbridges management, traffic Improvement, safe travel promotion, traffic control
(3) Four main goals
Safety: strengthening the maintenance of traffic safety facilities in the jurisdictional areas and improving the response measures for falling objects
Smoothness: enhancing traffic and road information services, and actively improving recurring congestions
Comfort: improving road pavements
Beautification: enhancing greenification and beautification, improving road cleanliness
