●Overview

1. History

The Office was established on May 15, 1974 under the Taiwan Area Freeway Engineering Bureau, responsible for the planning, design, and construction supervision of the central section of the Sun Yat-sen Freeway (Freeway No. 1). Upon the completion and opening of Freeway No. 1, its mission shifted from construction to maintenance, traffic management and road travel services. On the order from the Executive Yuan, the Office was restructured to become the Central Region Engineering Office operating under the Taiwan Area Freeway Bureau. From 2000 onward, it successively took over the central section of Freeway No. 3 and Freeways No. 4 and No. 6. In 2018, it's restructured as the Central Region Branch Office (CRBO) operating under the Freeway Bureau.
